Lecture 1: Polynomials and Affine Spaces.
Lecture 2: Affine Varieties and Ideals.
Lecture 3: The Hilbert Basis Thm and Groebner Bases
For those who are interested in learning more about Groebner Bases and Algebraic Geometry, we can read more basic materials about Groebner bases from Chapter 2 of Cox-Little-O'Shea's book. One of the objectives would be to understand the first four Chapters of Sturmfels' book. My hope is that someone will be eventually getting interested in coordinate rings of Grassmannians and woud like to investigate their toric degeneration and related issues (which will certainly lead toward a solid Ph.D thesis and further research topics).
